33 Ways to Tell if You’re the Workplace Jackass

Did most of the country take the day off today? Well then, we can’t think of a more opportune time to sneak this one in for those stuck at the office and in need of something a little bit lighter. We’re just going to come out and say it: we all know one. The workplace jackass, that is. Have you ever had a conversation with someone at work and following that, you walk away, rolling your eyes and say to yourself in your head, “Jackass…!” Well check out the list below and find out where they may fall on the list of jackassery:

You just might be a jackass if:

  1. People who think you’re a jackass are always wrong.
  2. Having the last word is normal for you.
  3. Making others squirm keeps them on their toes.
  4. You know more than most.
  5. Others are jealous because you’re “all that.”
  6. Pointing out faults and problems comes before celebrating successes and strengths.
  7. It’s their fault you ticked them off.
  8. Status really matters.
  9. Time pressure excuses rudeness.
  10. Your voice is louder than others.
  11. The world is full of jerks. You’re projecting yourself on the world.
  12. Trust is something weak leaders do.
  13. Teammates are competitors not colleagues.
  14. Others lose when you win.
  15. You don’t care when people are upset with you. After all, you can’t please everyone.
  16. Talking is more powerful than listening.
  17. Jealousy is your response to a colleague’s success.
  18. You quickly write others off.
  19. The stories you tell focus on your vacation or last exploit.
  20. Enemies outnumber friends.
  21. Anger is a useful motivation tool.
  22. Taking credit for your team’s success is the privilege of leadership.
  23. Failure is the other guys fault. You aren’t responsible.
  24. You interrupt.
  25. Brown-nosing the boss is the way to get ahead.
  26. Sarcastic humor is your default humor.
  27. Your team is the best team. All other teams are second rate.
  28. People are guarded around you.
  29. You enjoy proving you’re right and others are wrong.
  30. You always have an excuse or justification.
  31. People leave when you arrive.
  32. Texting during conversations is acceptable.
  33. Responding to emails at your desk when people have taken the time to come see you and talk with you face-to-face.

Bonus: You may also be the workplace jackass if you didn’t see yourself somewhere on this list.
